Tattoo Art Finding the perfect tattoo art work for your body can be quite a bit of a challenge especially when you know that the design you choose is going to stay with you forever. The last thing you would want to do is to select a tattoo design which you thought looked great at the moment, but regret having it later. So how does one go about selecting a tattoo design? Trust me when I say that going with your instincts is not really a great idea as it may seem at first. Selecting a tattoo design within an hour (or less) of walking into a tattoo parlor is something most people regret later. You need to be sure of the design art you select for your body. My advice to people getting a tattoo has always been to select a design or artwork and then give it some time to sink in. It is only after a day or two or more of selecting a tattoo design that you'll know whether you really want it or not. The best way to go about it is to browse through tattoo art galleries available online or at ...

make airbush tattoos with tribal designs

Image
Tribal Tattoo Design Before you apply your stencil ensure that you clean and dry the skin with iso-propanol alcohol and a clean cloth. Then position your stencil in place. Instead of painting the entire tattoo design black I am just going to paint around the outside edges to give it an embossed effect. To do this I paint around the edge of the stencil and allow the overspray to drift onto the skin. To add a really cool effect I am using a different type of stencil commonly used in airbrushing called a shield. This is another one of my own creations - Skull Mania. All I have done is used the small skulls on the sheild and painted a few here and there. This will aslo a...

pegasus tattoos

Image
Pegasus Tattoos - While the horse remains one of the most popular animal tattoo designs , the winged horse Pegasus stands out as a particular favorite with equine tattoo enthusiasts. Not enough for some people the beauty, grace and speed of the ordinary horse, they must add wings and magic and stories of Gods to the tattoo - we speak of course of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology . The birth of this mythical winged steed went something like this -- the Greek hero, Perseus, son of Zeus, slew the fearful Medusa with his magical sword, and from the blood gushing from her neck emerged the wild and magnificent Pegasus. Poseidon (Neptune),god of the Ocean, was Pegasus' father. pegasus tattoo designs

As a girly tattoo design, hearts are especially popular. Most heart tattoos are especially popular for those individuals that are seeking their first tattoo and are seeking a way to choose a small tattoo that can be placed on the hip, the ankle and even the shoulder blade or wrist that contains a simple design. The heart is the most simplest of designs but can come with a wide variety of meaning when it comes to choosing the tattoo. When you choose a heart tattoo, there are many variations. Therefore, choosing the right one can mean designing the heart yourself or creating elements which can help to create an enchantment within the heart, or creating a design which can help to customize the heart tattoo Here are some ways that you can customize the heart tattoo that is placed on the body – - Consider using initials or a name within the heart. Chest Tattoos

Image
Chest Tattoos When choosing a tattoo, the traditional place for men to have a tattoo designed and place is through the chest. The chest represents an area that can shown off during the summer months and small tattoos can be used as a part of a larger chest piece, which can contribute to a larger tattoo – displaying a collage of pictorials and symbols that have meaning to the person that has chosen to get a chest tattoo. There are many popular types of chest tattoos that have seen a rise in popularity to be placed on the chest. Some of these tattoos include the names of the children, a family crest, or traditional Mens tattoos such as eagles, jaguars and other types of animals which have been popular in the past. Men are able to customize these tattoos, which are usually placed on the left or right side of the chest, above the pectoral muscle. This are causes little discomfort to the tattoo that is being placed through the skin and therefore many men use this area as the traditional p...

tribal Wolf Tattoo Designs

Image
Wolf Tattoo Design One of the reasons why wolf tattoos are so popular is because of its association with mystery, unpredictability and beauty. The animal undoubtedly looks fierce and powerful, but if you look a bit deeply, you will notice the magic it carries in its captivating eyes and the aura of mystery that it exudes. All this could be figments of human imagination since wolves have routinely featured in the ancient folklores which we have all heard while growing up as a child. Wolves have stuck in our imagination, just like fairies did. One was associated with power and darkness while the other was linked with wish-fulfillment and happiness. The other reason why wolf tattoos are popular is perhaps because it can be worn both by a man or a woman. While the d esign can be made to look bold, large and fierce to symbolize power for the man, at the same time, it can be made to look pretty and dainty when it is etched in a smaller version using thin lines for the woman. Extreme body modifation -body art

Image
Scarification and Extreme Body Modification Nowhere in the world of body art is the ritualistic aspect of this art form more obvious than scarification . While scarification is certainly not for everyone, it is rooted in the same tribal traditions as piercings and has been found across cultures as an important rite of passage marking the end of one's adolescence. In modern society, advanced body modification has becoming particularly popular form of male body art . Taken to its most extreme expression, this form of body modification can involve some modifications that are not for the faint of heart. The primary forms of extreme body modification include: Branding : body branding is precisely what it sounds like and involves the application of a red hot figure of metal to the skin for the purpose of leaving a scar. Scalpelling : consists of the use of a sharp scalpel to make precise incisions in the skin, sometimes with the purpose of removing an entire portion...

Japanese tattoo

Image
Japanese tattoos c an provide a design that fits into just about anybody’s personal style. This is to create, in effect a delicate balancing of power with beauty. Usually you see Japanese tattoos with very familiar elements. You might seen various depictions of dragons, carp and even cherry blossoms. And these elements can be fit together in a many different and complex ways. Another popular themes among Japanese tattoos are depictions of great or epic battles. Take this Japanese tattoo as an example. It’s a beautifully inked design and one that is very complex. It appears to show a great battle or struggle and it may have taken it’s roots directly from ancient Japanese fables. This Japanese tattoo goes to show you just how complex and breath taking these designs can be. I especially like the dragon that is nestled in between the two warriors. But, I can’t seem to figure out what the dragon is trying to do. Is it decided the outcome of the battle or simply waiting to see who is the vic...

Extreme Celebrity Tattoos-david beckkham

David Beckham: Posh Spice’s better half has been in the soccer spotlight for more than 15 years. Although it did not take him long to establish a bad-boy reputation, this is the reputation that Beckham counts on for publicity, and getting more and more tattoos (now at 16) has served this purpose well. But, body space does run out. Just ask Tommy Lee.

extreme 3d ear tattoos

Image
I thought this was a great choice for a miniature ear tattoo. Using the shape of the ear to enhance the shape of the skull. Very detailed. I also like the shading that was added to accent the concave of the ear itself. Previously, I had only seen feminine ear tats – flowers, tribal stuff. I think ear body art will become more popular in the future. It’s discreet and if you have long enough hair, can be covered if you prefer that in some social situations.

Phoenix Tattoo in arm

Image
Phoenix Tattoo Phoenix tattoos are symbols of rebirth and resurrection. The phoenix is a mythological firebird originating in Phoenician, Egyptian and Greek mythology. Most people are aware that the phoenix is a mythological creature , the exact story is often quite fuzzy though. In general, the story is that the bird lives for 1000 years (or 500) at a time. Upon the conclusion of the 1000 years, it creates a nest made from myrrh twigs and burns the nest, as well as itself. Once the burning is completed, a new phoenix rises from the ashes after 3 days, to live for another 1000 years. The story itself is often modified and altered depending on the area where it originates from but the moral is always the same, the intention of the story is to prove that t he bird does in fact rise again .

Swallow Tattoos

Image
In some cultures, the first swallow of spring is a very fortunate sight because it is an omen of financial success . To ensure wealth through the year, one must rub two coins together while watching the bird. A tattoo of 2 swallows represents freedom . It is a popular tattoo design amongst people who are just released from prison. A swallow tattoo on the fists does symbolize that the person who wears it is a good fighter (in the UK). The tattoo is supposed to give you fast hands in a fight. Sometimes a swallow can also be seen in gang tattoos . In the context of prison tattoos , swallow tattoos, as wells as bluebird and sparrow tattoos (jailbirds), are also a symbol of white supremacy for some people. The swallow tattoo and other old-school tattoos are trendy again, especially in some scenes, such as the rockabilly scene. Swallow tattoos are a popular design amongst rockabilly girls and other retro chicks, just as nautical stars and cherry tattoos. This is due to the fa...

shamrock tattoos

Image
Even if you think you know shamrock tattoos , they are worth a second look. The shamrock is, perhaps, the most easily recognizable symbol of Ireland . Sometimes thought of as a ‘lucky clover’, the shamrock symbolizes the luck of the Irish. It calls to mind the grassy slopes of its country of origin, and the soulful yet optimistic nature of the people that live there. Shamrock tattoos are a perfect symbol of that unique and beloved cultural identity. Shamrock Tattoo For most of us living in North America, however, the shamrock image we are most familiar with is likely to be a bit ‘cartoonish’ – a bright, bold, Kelly green clover. Understandably, though these clover tattoo designs might appeal to some people, they aren’t to everyone’s taste. There’s a lot more to shamrock tattoos than this popular image, however; for instance, shamrock tattoo designs are often done in Celtic style , filled in with the classic triple spiral or Celtic knotwork. Alternatively, the shamrock desi...

temporary tattoos

Image
Washable tattoos (also called temporary tattoos or fake tattoos ) have been popular with kids for years now. These sticker-type tattoos transfer onto the skin when rubbed with a damp washcloth, and wear off after a few days or baths. Because they are cheap to produce and have a wide appeal, these washable tattoos are often given out at fairs or festivals or they can be found at the bottom of cereal boxes. Some companies use them for promotion. A more up-scale version of this type of tattoo can be purchased, and they are often made to look like real tattoo designs Washable tattoo These types of washable tattoos are just the beginning, though. Fake tattoos that transfer onto the skin have several distinct disadvantages ; for a start, they generally don’t look good for very long. The tattoo image itself is surrounded by a transparent area of stickiness, and after a day or so it tends to pick up dirt. After a few days to a week, the entire tattoo starts to peel off. At best, th...

Eye of Horus Tattoos

Image
Eye of Horus Tattoos Eye of Horus Tattoo Besides Ankh tattoos, the Eye of Horus tattoo (aka Egyptian Eye tattoo or Eye of Ra tattoo ) must be the most popular Egyptian art tattoo. The Eye of Horus (aka Wedjat ) is a protection symbol (from the god Horus). The symbol was used on ships, amulets, bracelets, etc. Horus was the god of the sky and looked like a falcon . The eye is the right eye of the falcon. The markings under the eye represent a teardrop. Eye of Ra tattoos look the same as Eye of Horus designs because the gods Ra and Horus became one. Ra was the sun god, that's why Eye of Horus tattoos often include a sun in its design. Eye of Horus tattoos are a common form of gang tattoos , for protection from other gangs and back stabbers. Something you also see fairly often is the eye pyramid tattoo , a design in which the Eye of Horus is incorporated in a pyramid

Yakuza Tattoos

Image
The Yakuza, the Japanese mafia , are known for their tattoos. Around 70% of the Yakuza members are tattooed. Tattoos are their way of showing courage, masculinity and devotion towards the organization. Lately however the tattoo habits of the yakuza are changing. Yakuza members want to keep a low profile and a full body suit tattoo isn't exactly low profile. Smaller tattoos in the Western style are getting more popular and some go as far as tattoo removal .

Horimono or Irezumi | tattoo and meanings

Image
Horimono : the Japanese word for "carving". Irezumi : means "insert ink" . Both words refer to the art of tattooing . Japanese tattoo art was an offshoot of the distinctive woodblock prints , called ukiyo-e . Some of the wood carvers turned to tattooing as an adjunct to their artistic careers, others exchanged their carving-blades for tattoo needles full time as tattooing grew more popular in the 19th century. One of the most famous Japanese tattoo artists of that time, was Horiuno . Irezumi has got its share of supporters in the West. Some travel to Japan to be tattooed by a Horishi in the Tebori way (by hand), a time-intensive, painful and very expensive undertaking. The traditional Japanese tattoo style is very detailed, what makes getting a Japanese tattoo time-consuming and expensive.

history of Japanese tattoos

Image
The history of Japanese tattoos goes back to 10,000 BCE. The woman of the Ainu people used tattoos to make themselves look like their goddess, so that demons (who caused diseases) would mistake them for the goddess and get scared. These tribal tattoos started at an early age with a small tattoo on the upper lip. When growing older this small tattoo was expanded. From 300 BC to 300 AD tattoos were used for spiritual and social purposes. Just like in other tattoo cultures, they were an indicator of ones social status. From 300 AD on, tattoos were used in Japan to mark criminals. This practice is called bokukei or bokkei . Japan was the last country to stop marking criminals with tattoos (in 1870). People started covering up these marks of shame with more decorative tattoos and that's how the art started. Japanese Tattoo Art (1870) Tattooing in Japan reached its zenith in the 1800 s, during the Edo period , a time when the power and influence of the common people was ...

They take their themes from those of ancient Mayan, Inca and Aztec art , a very distinctive look that’s different from most other types of tattoo designs, yet instantly recognizable. The bold, geometric patterns of Mexican tattoos make them very well suited to tattoo art.
